Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve durability of a magnetic layer and to provide a lower tendency to the staining of a magnetic head by incorporating magnetic nitrided metal particles and magnetic hexagonal ferrite particles into the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION: The magnetic nitrided metal particles and magnetic hexagonal ferrite particles in the magnetic layer are preferably in an about 2W50:98W50, more preferably about 5W25:95W75 range by weight in terms of the exhibition of the synergistic effect of both. The magnetic nitrided metal particles have excellent magnetic characteristics and exhibit the effect like a polishing agent; in addition, the particles have the much higher electrical conductivity than the electrical conductivity of the magnetic hexagonal ferrite particles such as magnetic barium ferrite particles. Since the magnetic nitrided metal particles are higher in hardness than the magnetic hexagonal ferrite particles, the use of the polishing agent in a large amt. is not required. The magnetic coated film layer formed of such particles is highly resistant to wear and has the lower tendency to the staining of the magnetic head. COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
